  • Well child checks

Well child checks are the cornerstones of a child's health and well being. A lot of parents recognize these visits as the times they come in to see a doctor and get vaccines.

But there is so much more to these visits!

Being a pediatrician, I believe that the best treatment for many problems is actually prevention. When it comes to children, simple things such as healthy eating habits, good sleep, regular exercise, and opportunity to play are fundamental for good growth and development.

During well child checks we will talk about your child’s growth, development, school successes and challenges.

This is the time to ask questions such as, “Is this normal?”, “What should my child do at this age?”, “How do I help my child stay healthy?”

We will screen younger children for developmental delays and provide further counseling if needed. We will screen adolescents for depression and talk about mental health.

We follow American Academy of Pediatrics and Bright Futures guidelines for frequency of visits and recommended preventive measures. We will see your child many times for these well child checks in the first and second year of life. Afterwards, we will see you once a year for preventive visits once your child turns three years old.

We encourage you to come in regularly for well visits, even if your child is doing well and staying healthy. I am always very excited to see a healthy child in my office and it becomes a time to celebrate your child's health and achievements!

In addition, well child checks are covered by most insurance plans!

I recommend that you schedule a separate appointment if you have concerns about your child's health, behavior or development. Discussion and management of chronic symptoms and conditions are not part of preventive care.

  • Sports preparticipation visits

Your child may need to be cleared by a doctor in order to be able to play sports.

For public schools sports preparticipation clearance is usually required starting in seventh grade. For other organizations requirements may vary.

We offer sports participation clearance as a part of a well child preventive exam for established and new patients establishing with our practice. Please fill out a History Form and bring it to your appointment.
